Loot
A Mimic LitRPG
He was the mimic in side room fourteen, until a girl patted his lid instead of opening it.
The chest in side room fourteen had been waiting for eleven years, and it was very good at it.
It was a Hoard Mimic on floor three of the Verdigris, the living Delve under Copperhollow. It ate whoever lifted the lid, and in between it waited. Then Kit Ashby, of a broke Tin crew eleven weeks behind on the rent, sat down beside it and patted the lid. She didn’t open it.
Nobody had ever done that before. Something inside the chest went oh.
Name: none
Kind: Hoard Mimic (Uncommon), level 1
Hunger: 31
Now the mimic has a name, Locke, and a face it keeps quietly improving. It also has a crew, and a line in the Delvers’ Hall ledger as their Porter. The Touchstone gave him a Rare class, Gourmand. What Locke eats, he keeps: skills, spells, memories, and sometimes the voice of whoever he ate. He has made Kit one promise, the Clean Plate: only the dead, only those who came to kill.
The Retrievers pay twelve crowns a lid. The Assay House sees more than it lets on. And somewhere below them all, the Verdigris has noticed that one of its Minions is missing.
Can a monster join the crew without anyone finding out what’s in the porter?
Loot is Book One of Nothing to See Here: a funny mimic LitRPG with System windows, a monster to level, a dungeon to crawl and a crew to keep fed.
